ABOUT ME

From the time I was a young girl, I've loved expressing myself through artistic means. I began taking art lessons at the age of five, and got my first camera on my eighth birthday. My first award came in seventh grade, for a poster promoting my school's spaghetti supper. I was the art director for my high school newspaper, and credit my early design education to Shirley Fincannon of Hillwood High in Nashville, TN.

My family is full of amazingly creative people and successful entrepreneurs. I've been able to learn so much by their example. Running one's own business is not the easiest way to make a living, but the rewards are many. I treasure the relationships I've built with my clients, and celebrate their successes.

Every design project is unique, and each working relationship defines itself. When someone is interested in talking with me about a project, generally we'll start by discussing what they need, who they want to reach, and what the budget is. Once these important questions are answered, we can begin to work together to generate the most effective design possible.

Many of the fulltime jobs I've held in the past have helped to develop the tools I now use on a daily basis. My years in the art departments at HITS and the Nashville Scene taught me about workflow, deadlines, and editorial typography and advertising.

My experience as an assistant producer for Sandro Photography introduced me to the world of high-level advertising. The art directors and designers I worked with while creating campaigns for clients like Allstate, the U.S. Army, Gatorade, and Powerbar were all leaders in the field. I am fortunate to have had the chance to work with them.

While with Sandro, I was asked to produce his solo exhibition in Verona Italy, in 2002. This project was a massive undertaking. There is not room here to go into all of the details that had to be addressed, but suffice to say I am able to take huge projects through from start to finish, even with a language barrier!

My years in music continue to be fruitful and fun. As an A&R Rep and Production Coordinator for Chameleon Records, I enjoyed working with musical artists and executives alike, and helped make a couple of records. As the Music Director for an alternative rock station, WRLG, I learned to focus on one's audience and find creative ways to go beyond meeting their expectations. My broadcast experience at several radio stations, including my current gig at Lightning 100 and the five years I spent at WDBX, keeps me abreast of trends and affords the chance to speak with many people on a regular basis.

I've been fortunate to teach many promising graphic designers at SIUC and now at the Art Institute of Tennessee Nashville. My students never fail to amaze, and we definitely learn from one another.
